Channing Ansley Grate
Channing Ansley Grate is a communications leader with nearly two decades of experience in public affairs and political campaigns. An expert in integrated communications, message development, and crisis response, Channing’s career has included federal and state government service, leadership roles on national and statewide political campaigns, and integrated communications support for local and national nonprofits.
Channing most recently served in the Biden-Harris Administration as Associate Administrator for the Office of Strategic Communications at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), where she grew a multi-disciplinary team of communications professionals responsible for all aspects of enterprise internal and external communications. During her tenure, she led the development and implementation of multi-platform communications campaigns that advanced the Biden-Harris Administration agenda and put GSA on the map as a leader in clean energy innovation and digital transformation.
Channing’s previous roles include serving as the Director of Public Affairs at GPS Impact, Communications Director for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, Deputy Chief of Staff on the Hillary for America campaign, and research and policy-related roles at EMILY’s List, National Journal, and multiple candidate campaigns. Through the years, she has worked on nearly every public policy issue, leveraged nearly every type of communication platform, and managed almost every type of crisis.
Channing grew up in Newport, RI, and graduated with a B.A. in political science from Columbia University in New York. An avid reader who hopes to get back into running shape one of these days, Channing lives in Washington, DC, with her husband, Adam, and their son, Bowen.
