I recently had the pleasure of attending United WE‘s annual “We Work for Change” event at Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. It wasn’t my first time – I attended many United WE events as a child, as my mom believed in surrounding me with strong women leaders. Now, returning as an adult, it felt incredibly meaningful to celebrate women in leadership, their impact, and the next generation to come.
I was thrilled to hear from event keynote, Linsey Davis. I wasn’t alone in this feeling–the audience welcomed her with a standing ovation before she even began to speak! As a seasoned anchor and correspondent for ABC News, her experience in reporting major political events, conducting powerful interviews, delivering impactful journalism, and being a bestselling author made her an inspiring voice. A couple of lines that stood out to me were, “Where you sit determines what you see, and what you see determines what you do.” And, “Somebody had to be great; why not me?”
I also thoroughly enjoyed the Q&A panel featuring Linsey Davis, United WE President and CEO Wendy Doyle, and The DeBruce Foundation’s Career Corps members and college students, Annalia Escalante, Brian Pelico, and Tatyana Rollins. Their discussion on advancing women in economic and civic leadership gave me hope for our future.
Cheers to all who joined us in person and virtually. Let’s continue advancing women’s economic and civic leadership!
